William Goldman

     American novelist, playwright, and screenwriter, William Goldman is known for being versatile. Goldman is most famous for writing the novel and subsequent screenplay for the cult classic The Princess Bride. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on August 12, 1931, Goldman was the son of a successful businessman. In 1952, Goldman received a Bachelor of Arts from Oberlin College, and then spent two years working for the Pentagon because he knew how to type. In 1954, he went to Columbia for his Masters of Arts, and wrote short stories during his evenings, but was never published. Upon graduating, he was offered a teaching position and considered advertising, however, he followed his dream of being a writer.
     While he began as a novelist, Goldman received his fame by writing screenplays. Most notably, Harper in 1966 that featured Paul Newman, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid in 1969 that won an Academy Award, All the Presidents Men in 1976 that also won an Academy Award, Misery in 1990 starring Kathy Bates, and, of course, The Princess Bride in 1987.


 

Cary Elwes

     As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride is a first hand account of behind-the-scene action in the making of the cult classic The Princess Bride. Actor and author of the As You Wish, Ivan Simon Cary-Elwes, better known by his surname, was born October 26, 1962 in Westminster, United Kingdom. Cary Elwes was born into an already prominent family of painters, socialites, film producers, industrialists, photographers, spies, diplomats, and even a Roman Catholic Bishop. In 1981, Elwes traveled to the United States to attend Sarah Lawrence College in New York to study acting. He was mentored by Al Pacinos mentor, American actor Charlie Laughton. He then worked as a production assistant to Marlon Brando, who called him Rocky.
     His big break came from being cast as the simple farm boy turned rogue pirate in The Princess Bride in 1987. Despite not remaining in the the limelight, Elwes performances maintained a fan base that led to him writing As You Wish in 2014 through Magenta Publishing. Currently, Elwes is known best for his recurring role as the mysterious criminal Despereaux on USA Networks Psych.
